Please find attached notice of the Gender and Cultural Studies seminar series for Semester one 2012 and additional advice on a forthcoming talk by Professor Allen Feldman.

Allen Feldman is an associate professor of  the Department of Media, Culture and  Communication and the visual culture  program at  New York University<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_University>. His research and teaching interests include visual culture and violence, the political anthropology of embodiment and the senses, performance studies, and the philosophy of media. Allen Feldman has conducted ethnographic fieldwork in  Northern Ireland on political terror,  South Africa on transitional-restorative justice, and he has conducted policy related action research on the policing of  the unhoused affected and infected by HIV/AIDS in NYC. He is the author of three books:  The Northern Fiddler, (Blackstaff Press, 1980) an ethnomusicology and visual ethnography of Irish performance practice, Formations of Violence: The Narrative of the Body and Political Terror in Northern Ireland (University of Chicago Press<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Chicago_Press> 1991) the first ethnography that engaged political violence from the perspective of embodiment  and Archives of the Insensible: On Aisthesis, War and Dead Memory that explores the visual culture of political sovereignty in the war on terror, transitional justice and  political animality (Duke University Press forth coming).
