'VIRTUAL NATION' LAUNCH + SYDNEY MEDIA NETWORKING EVENT
Have you ever wondered, 'What are other Postgraduate Students doing in the
Media and Communications in the Sydney area?' Or have you thought that
catching up for a drink with colleagues working in the same area in other
departments would be productive, stimulating or fun? Then come to an
informal networking session for Media and Communications academics,
researchers, and postgraduates.
Highlights of the session include:
*Sydney Launch of 'Virtual Nation: the Internet in Australia', edited by
Gerard Goggin (UNSW Press, 2004;
http://www.unswpress.com.au/isbn/0868405035.htm).
'Virtual Nation' will be launched by Kate Crawford - lecturer in
Media and Communications program @ University of Sydney, writer on
new media and politics, and internationally recognised electronic
artist.
*Panel discussion: 'What's the use of Media and Communications Studies in a
time of lies, fear and war?'. Panel participants are Tanja Dreher, Gerard
Goggin, Richard Stanton and Helen Wilson.
What: Networking Session for Media and Communications Postgrads and Staff
Where: Upstairs at the Gaelic Club (64 Devonshire Street, Surry Hills)
- near Central Station, Sydney.
When: Tuesday 2nd November. 5:30pm-7.30pm
Brought to you by ANZCA <www.anzca.net> Contact: Steven Maras, 2004 NSW
ANZCA Rep. University of Western Sydney <s.maras at uws.edu.au>
ANZCA is about creating a space of dialogue between different strands of
communications studies, including those focused on making organisations
function better, and others that seek to understand their social role. The
age of fear, lies and war produces particular challenges for a generalist
association such as ANZCA that includes media workers and public relations
practitioners-but the dialogue is arguably more important than ever. How
many approaches to communication do we need to understand and operate in
this age of fear, lies and conflict? Come and help develop the network to
continue the dialogue...
Non ANZCA members welcome. No admission charge. Drinks may be
purchased at the bar.
WARNING: Some gratuitous promotion of the Australia and New Zealand
Communication Association, its journals, and forthcoming conference in New
Zealand, may occur spontaneously.
