It occurs to me that, around twenty years ago in Australia, it was wildly 
prevalent that people worked across art history/criticism, cultural studies 
'avant la lettre', film, music, design, etc. Only a few random examples of 
names of people who are still working this kind of magpie 
cross-disciplinarity: Philip Brophy, Meaghan Morris, Nikos Papastergiadis, 
Helen Grace, Edward Colless, George Alexander, Paul Carter, Mick Carter, 
Linda Williams ... also myself!
