An Interdisciplinary Symposium In Memory of Ross Gibson

This symposium will celebrate the life and legacy of Ross Gibson (1956–2023), Centenary Professor of Creative and Cultural Research at the University of Canberra, and a distinguished Australian scholar, writer, artist and public intellectual. Ross Gibson was a founding figure in media and cultural studies and had an enormous influence in the creative arts, screen studies, Australian studies, history and more recently the environmental humanities. In tribute to, and in continuation of Ross Gibson’s spirit of interdisciplinary collaboration and warm collegiality, the symposium will feature speakers from the fields of screen studies and film criticism, media studies and ecocultural research, creative practices in sound and new media, and literature and creative writing. The symposium will conclude with the screening of Ross Gibson’s essay film WILD (1993).
