Dear colleagues,

UNSW Sydney’s School of the Arts & Media is looking for sessional staff to tutor in our revamped Bachelor of Media program in 2023.

The UNSW Bachelor of Media<https://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/programs/2023/3341> is a broad-ranging program in which students combined deep specialisation in one field with strong foundations in media theory and lots of choice around electives.

We are recruiting tutors for our teaching pool for four of our specialisations: Communications & Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations & Advertising, and Screen Production.

Our tutors come from both academic and industry backgrounds. You might hold or be a candidate for a PhD in a related area, or have significant industry experience that equips you to teach our practice-based courses.

UNSW has a three term academic calendar<https://www.student.unsw.edu.au/calendar>, with each term running for 10 weeks (including a one-week break). Tutorials are run for 2 hours on average, but the length and format varies from course to course. From 2023, almost all tutorials will be face-to-face on the Kensington, Sydney, campus with online classes available only when required. Tutors work closely with course convenors / lecturers and are responsible for supporting student learning via in-class activities, formative feedback, and timely marking of assessment.

If you would like to be considered for our teaching pool, you must submit an application via UNSW’s UniHire portal<https://external-careers.jobs.unsw.edu.au/cw/en/job/507301/casual-academic-talent-pool-ada-arts-media>. This portal allows you to lodge an expression of interest for sessional employment, indicate previous teaching experiences, and identify specific specialisations and courses that you feel might fit. Applying is not a guarantee of employment but we will endeavour to find matches for applicants with appropriate experience. Please be expansive in your preferences, but only tag courses you would feel confident to teach based on your academic or industry background.

Information about the program can be found at the UNSW Handbook entry for the Bachelor of Media.<https://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/programs/2023/3341> Click through the Specialisation entries to find out more about each area and the courses available within it.

If you have any questions, please contact Bachelor of Media Program Director Associate Professor Michael Richardson at michael.richardson at unsw.edu.au<mailto:michael.richardson at unsw.edu.au>.
Best wishes,
Michael
