The Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies (GSWS) at Simon Fraser University invites applications for a continuing teaching appointment at the rank of Lecturer, commencing July 1, 2022.


The preferred candidate will have:

  *   expertise in new media and equity-focused digital pedagogy
  *   interest and training in one or more of the following fields, including but not limited to: educational technology, interactive arts and streaming media, games design, massive open online course design, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality for online learning, experiential learning platform
  *   experience in designing and innovating online and blended* learning, based on principles of inclusion, accessibility, and equity
  *   evidence of excellent teaching skills including in online and blended* environments
  *   the ability to work effectively within transnational and intersectional frameworks
  *   PhD in GSWS or related disciplines in hand at the time of appointment.
The successful candidate will:

  *   teach core undergraduate and graduate courses in GSWS
  *   teach elective courses in the field of new media and digital learning
  *   lead development in online and blended* curriculum
  *   collaborate with colleagues on developing digital learning practices
  *   participate in departmental and university committees
*Blended courses at SFU have at least one quarter and no more than three quarters of student learning integral to the course occurring in the online environment, replacing in-person instruction.


Applications should include:

  1.  A cover letter summarizing the applicant’s experience, qualifications, and interests for the position

  *   A complete CV
  *   The name, title, institutional affiliation, and contact information of three academic referees
  *   A teaching dossier which includes the following:

     *   teaching philosophy as it relates to new media, equity-focussed digital pedagogy and other relevant fields
     *   evidence of teaching experience and teaching effectiveness
     *   sample course syllabi (including course description, reading list, assignments, and other pedagogical activities) for:

        *   an innovative online course in the candidate’s area of expertise
        *   an innovative blended course in the candidate’s area of expertise

     *   a statement (500-600 words) on how you would approach and innovate the following core courses in GSWS:

        *   one 100-level GSWS course (100, 101, or 102)
        *   one graduate course in either Feminist Theory or Research Toolkit (822 or 800)
