THE AUSTRALIAN ART FIELD: PRACTICES, POLICIES, INSTITUTIONS
Edited by Tony Bennett, Deborah Stevenson, Fred Myers and Tamara Winikoff
Routledge, Routledge Research in Art History

The Australian Art Field: Practices, Policies, Institutions<http://www.routledge.com/9780367184414> brings together leading scholars and practitioners to address the frictions generated by a tumultuous time in the Australian art field and to probe what the crises might mean going forward.

Topics include national and international art markets; art practices in the context of their broader social and political contexts; social relations and institutions and their role in contemporary Australian art; and the policy regimes and funding programmes of Australian governments.

Particular attention is paid to the bearing of these questions on the position of Indigenous art in a settler-colonial state, multicultural art practices, and the relations between art, gender, sexualities and social class. Interviews with leading artists conducted by Tamara Winikoff add to the uniqueness of the collection and lend a vivid actuality to the book's critical engagements.
