With apologies for x-posting

On behalf of the Editorial Board of Culture, Theory and Critique, I would like to provide an update on our journal's operations during this difficult time. We recognise that many authors and reviewers will have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in different ways and may thus not be able to meet deadlines or to carry out tasks that seemed entirely feasible but a few weeks ago at all. Please know that we understand entirely and reach out if ever you wish to discuss how we can work together for a positive result - and please forgive any automated reminders that still fly your way from our systems.
While progressing the work of the journal has become more challenging, we have decided not to pause all of our operations, knowing that for many colleagues it will remain important for publications to appear in as timely a fashion as possible; this may be especially so for colleagues seeking employment or in tenure track positions. In addition, we believe that work such as that published in the journal has an important role to play in helping people to think through the world they live in, both generally and in relation to the particular constellation of questions that have come to the fore during this pandemic.
For this reason, as well as trying to maintain our normal operations as far as possible, we are here issuing a call for papers that address questions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. In an attempt to ensure that papers in this series appeal to and are accessible to as broad an audience as possible as quickly as possible, we are: calling for papers that are shorter than the journal's standard article-length; working on a fast-track refereeing process, and; negotiating with our publisher, Taylor & Francis, to make the online version of any paper published in this series open access for a limited time. (Note that while Taylor & Francis have announced a pause on the print publication of journals, there is currently no interruption to their online operations.) Please note that while we are keen to receive submissions that appeal to a broad audience, papers submitted MUST fall within the journal's normal aims and scope. The call for papers follows. We look forward to reading your responses.

"Viral Logics and Cytopathic Effects"
Culture, Theory and Critique is calling for submissions for a themed series to be entitled, "Viral Logics and Cytopathic Effects". In line with the journal's aims and scope, papers submitted for this series should address ways in which the current COVID-19 pandemic requires us to reconceptualise extant theoretical frameworks or, conversely, how these frameworks might enable us to reconfigure the viral logics that have come to dominate many different forms of culture. The critical interventions called for should then seek, metaphorically, to bring about cytopathic effects in the bodies of knowledge that are, or should be, operational in the current environment.
All papers will undergo a process of double blind peer review; however, in line with the accelerated timelines of this contemporary moment, we will aim to fast track the refereeing process for papers in this series. Once accepted and through the refereeing and production process, papers will be made immediately available online; we are currently negotiating for these papers to be open access but cannot confirm this as yet. Papers will appear in print issues of the journal as soon as possible, published across a number of issues as a series rather than all together in a single volume.
Aware of the extra demands placed on many working in the academic sector at this time but wishing to provide an outlet for colleagues wanting to turn their work to this crisis, for this series, Culture, Theory and Critique will accept shorter papers than usual; submissions should be between 2,500-5,000 words.
Submissions will be accepted at any time until the end of 2020. When submitting through our online submission system<https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/rctc>, please select "Viral Logics" as the issue for which you wish your paper to be considered.
Prospective authors are asked to familiarise themselves with the journal's aims and scope <https://www.tandfonline.com/action/journalInformation?show=aimsScope&journalCode=rctc20> and a range of papers from the journal to ensure that their work is suitable for this outlet. For the sake of expediency, authors are also requested to respect the journal's instructions for authors and style guide<https://www.tandfonline.com/action/authorSubmission?show=instructions&journalCode=rctc20>.
For all inquiries, including questions regarding the suitability of a piece for Culture, Theory and Critique prior to full submission, please contact the Editor-in-Chief, Greg Hainge (g.hainge at uq.edu.au<mailto:g.hainge at uq.edu.au>).
