*Two PhD Positions in Museum Studies, Cultural Studies, History, Gender
and **Sexuality Studies and/or Related Areas for commencement in early 2020*

The Faculty of Arts at The University of Adelaide and the History Trust of
South Australia (Migration Museum) are seeking two quality PhD candidates
to develop studies related to the ARC Linkage Project LGBTQ Migrations:
Life Story Narratives in the South Australian GLAM Sector.

The students will undertake a project, developed in collaboration with the
investigators, primarily around the question of the ways in which museums
might engage with gender and sexuality, in the promotion of diversity and
social justice.

Relevant objectives of this project may include:

*(1)* Understanding key factors of internal migration specific to gender
and sexual minorities, including place of origin, reason for migration,
type of migration (e.g., related to work, family, caring responsibilities,
emotional, sexual and affective attachments and liaisons, health and the
search for more tolerant environments and neighbourhoods), and expectations
related to South Australia’s early reputation for inclusion of
non-heterosexual persons; and

*(2) *Developing frameworks for the collection and preservation of personal
stories, memories and materials related to migration, mobility and movement
that will benefit public knowledge and repositories of South Australia’s
history.

The students will be involved in research, data collection and analysis,
interviews, the conduct of focus groups, report writing, publication and
curatorial work, including the production of a major exhibition.

The students will receive invaluable research training in a humanities and
social sciences project related to gender and sexual diversity and will be
partially embedded at the Migration Museum receiving valuable industry
experience relevant to career interests and enhancing the project’s
capabilities to ensure strong impact and engagement activities for the
sector. Students will be supervised by the *project investigators,
including Rosslyn Prosser (Adelaide), Nikki Sullivan (Migration Museum),
Rob Cover (RMIT University).*

Applicants should have first-class honours or equivalent in a relevant
area. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia, or
citizens of New Zealand.

*Stipend*: $27,596 (2019 rate) per annum indexed annually. It is likely to
be tax exempt, subject to Taxation Office approval.
