Dear CSAA Colleagues,

Please join the School of Indigenous Australian Studies at Charles Sturt University for a public talk by Auntie Frances Bodkin on the importance of plant associations in our landscape. A reception with food and refreshments will follow the talk. The public talk is free. Dubbo Campus, Charles Sturt University, May 18th, 4.30pm AEST.

Many of you will not be able to make it to cosmopolitan Dubbo for the talk, please note that it is live audio-streamed and a recording of the lecture will be disseminated later. Please get in touch with me about accessing the live stream and recording.

Frances Bodkin is a descendant of the D'harawal people of the Bidiagal clan. She is an educator of D'harawal knowledge and has a number of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Environmental Sciences. She has publications on D'harawal culture, stories and natural resources. She has made a significant contribution to the Macarthur region in South West Sydney by playing a key role in the development of Campbelltown Hospital, Campbelltown TAFE (Technical and Further Education) vocational college, Mount Annan Botanic Gardens and the University of Western Sydney Campus. Because of her expertise in creating sustainable environments in a highly populated urban area and her direct role in the development of key health and educational sectors in South West Sydney, her knowledge of Indigenist environmental science can make an important contribution to urban and environmental planning in response to climate change.

This public talk is supported by a Seminar Series Award from the Urban Studies Foundation. Entitled Doing Indigenous urban research: creative futures and Indigenising urban studies, this public lecture series centres Indigenous expertise and histories to contemporary urban problems in Australia and demonstrates the relevance of Indigenist research approaches to international urban studies. For more information on the series, please contact Dr. Holly Randell-Moon: hrandell-moon at csu.edu.au. The Urban Studies Foundation is a charitable organisation that provides grant funding to advance academic research and education in the field of urban studies.

Kind regards,
Holly.
