The Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University invites Expressions of Interest from PhD students and other researchers for its forthcoming Master Class, 'Globalization Matters: Theory and Practice in the Age of Trump'<https://www.westernsydney.edu.au/ics/events/globalization_master_class>.
Details
* Western Sydney University, Parramatta Campus
* 5-7 September, 2018
* Delivered by Professor Paul James (Western Sydney University) and Professor Manfred Steger (University of Hawai'i)
Master Class Overview
* How can we best understand globalization today?
* What are the contemporary consequences of globalization during a time of right-wing populism?
* How does having a global perspective enhance our research into different local and regional phenomena?
The 'Globalization Matters' Master Class offers PhD students and other interested researchers the opportunity to explore these questions with Professors Manfred Steger (University of Hawai'i) and Paul James (Western Sydney University), two of the most innovative writers on globalization today.
During the Roaring Nineties, globalization-both the process and the idea-bestrode the world. Everybody was talking about it. Widely hailed as the 'most important phenomenon of our time', 'globalization' became one of those rare concepts that have taken the entire world by storm. Now, the concept and the practice is everywhere, but strangely less understood than ever. This Master Class will both cover the full range of approaches to globalization and offer researchers the opportunity of exploring how their own work could benefit from a global studies perspective.
Fees
The Early Bird rate is $500 (AUD) for the three-day master class. Early Bird registration ends on 30 June, 2018. After that, the Full Rate will be $600 (AUD). The fee covers coffee and tea on arrival (three days); lunch (two days); and afternoon coffee and tea (two days).
How to Apply
We are seeking Expressions of Interest from PhD candidates and other researchers for participation in the Master Class. You can submit your Expression of Interest via this Google Form (http://bit.ly/GlobalizationMatters). You will be notified of the result of your application in June.
