These may be of interest to some list-members.

Please note there are two different jobs, with slightly different selection criteria. We anticipate that some people will wish to apply for both, but they will need to do so separately.

Chris

Lecturer Human Geography (Level B)
· Two positions
· Department of Geography and Sustainable Communities, University of Wollongong
· Continuing Appointment
The Department of Geography and Sustainable Communities has recently been established as part of the University of Wollongong’s strategic changes to meet the challenges of the 21st century. The Department is situated in the School of Health and Society, within a new Faculty of Social Sciences which brings together a group of outstanding scholars of national and international standing. The Department is in a phase of growth as it takes a key role in the implementation of a new Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) in 2015. Human Geography is also taught in two Bachelor of Science programs, the BSc (Human Geography) and BSc (Land and Heritage Management). The Department contains the Australian Centre for Cultural Environmental Research (AUSCCER) and has strong links to the University’s Global Challenges program. We seek scholars with excellent research and teaching capacities to join us in these exciting developments.

One position will focus on social and cultural applications of Geographic Information Systems. This person will have responsibility for incorporating spatial analysis into Human Geography subjects (both undergraduate and postgraduate), and into methods subjects of broad relevance to Bachelor of Social Science programs.

The other position will coordinate teaching and support for students on the satellite campuses where the BSS Human Geography major is to be taught (Batemans Bay, Bega, Moss Vale, Shoalhaven, Southern Sydney). This person will contribute to teaching in specific subjects relevant to their expertise.

Specific research expertise should enhance and complement that existing in AUSCCER (http://socialsciences.uow.edu.au/ausccer/index.html).

Possible areas of specialisation include but are not restricted to: climate change response; cultural economies; cultural and social dimensions of environmental issues; human/nature relations; urban, rural and regional change.
