Dear colleagues,

The Institute for Culture and Society cordially invites you to attend the Museums, Collecting, Agency<http://uws.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=2c6b3db5d53c38069ca16f941&id=5760585386&e=12d0e19aa7> symposium on April 1-2 at the Australian Museum in Sydney.

The symposium is jointly hosted by ICS, Australian Museum, the Heritage Studies Programme at Victoria University of Wellington and the Museum and Heritage Program at the University of Sydney.

The symposium seeks to examine questions of agency as they relate to museum and museum-like practices of collecting, particularly in connection with histories of colonialism and their legacies. The symposium focuses on the question of agency and its implications for understanding ethnographic museum collections and collecting practices.

Keynote speakers are Ann Salmond, Distinguished Professor of Māori Studies and Anthropology at the University of Auckland, and Phil Gordon, Head of Aboriginal Collections at the Australian Museum, Sydney.
