The Persona, Celebrity, Publics research group at Deakin University is hosting the second of their Reading and Talking Out Loud Seminar Series on Friday 6th September, 10-11am in the Richard Searby Room (hd2.006) on Burwood Campus. In the talk, titled The Deformed Transformed: Byronic Satanism and Scandalous Celebrity, Dr Clara Tuite, from the University of Melbourne, will explore the ways in which Lord Byron embodies and brings-into-being celebrity culture 'as a mode of social ritual, publicity and social affect within that wider culture of Enlightenment modernity'.
