Ici et ailleurs (Here and Elsewhere), 1976
TIME: July 31, 5pm
PLACE: UWS Bankstown Campus, 02.6.05
Ici et ailleurs (Here and Elsewhere) is a 1976 film by Jean-Luc Godard and Anne-Marie Miéville. The film uses footage from the 1970 pro-Palestinian film Jusqu'à la victoire taken by two filmmakers, Jean-Luc Godard and Jean-Pierre Gorin, as part of the politically engaged Dziga Vertov Group. Jusqu'à la victoire could not be completed, since its subjects (members of the Palestine Liberation Organization) were killed after the filming of the initial footage of Jusqu'à la victoire, but both the footage and the critical reflection on the project and methods of the Dziga Vertov Group were incorporated into Ici et ailleurs.
Please note that the screening of Ici et ailleurs takes place on July 31 in connection with the presentation by Professor A. Kiarina Kordela on August 01, Gaze, or, The Limit to Boundary. By analyzing Godard and Miéville's film, Professor Kordela's paper proposes the "gaze" as a mode of "limit" that goes beyond Kant's distinction between limit-as that which makes a field of knowledge unlimited-and boundary-as the marker of the difference between something and its other.
