"Anthropomorphism and Contemporary Writing"

This paper will look at problems of anthropomorphism in animal studies and literary representation. Texts to be discussed include Peter Goldsworthy’s Wish, Barbara Gowdy’s The White Bone and Elisabeth Bailey’s The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating.

Helen Tiffin is a renowned literary critic. She is co-author of the The Empire Writes Back: Postcolonial Literatures, Theory and Practice (Routledge) and most recently co-author of Postcolonial Ecocriticism: Literature, Animals, Environment (Routledge). She is currently Adjunct Professor of English and Animal studies at the University of New England.
