The Philosophical Stakes of Ethology for the 21st Century

In this paper, I tackle the question of knowing in what measure European
culture could develop a vision of the world in which intelligence is not
restricted to the human but is constantly negotiable between mutliple human
and nonhuman agents.

Dominique Lestel is Associate Professor at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in
Paris. He has published a dozen books with major French publishers
including, most recently, L'animal est l'avenir de l'homme (Fayard, 2010).
His research is principally concerned with the philosophy of hybrid
human/animal/machine communities.
