Gender Research Employment

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified people to be involved in a gender research project in the mining industry in Australia. Duties may include conducting gendered behaviours audits, facilitating workshops, conducting action research (including field work) and writing reports.

Project Background
Factive (www.factive.com.au <http://www.factive.com.au> ) has been undertaking research into the relationship between masculinity and safety in the Australian mining industry. Senior management in leading mining companies throughout Australia have responded to the presentation of this research with a request for how they can respond to this issue in their workplaces. In conjunction with the Journalism and Media Research Centre at the University of New South Wales and with the assistance of Federal funding through the Researchers in Business grant scheme, Factive has now developed the programs that are able to respond to this issue. It is anticipated the first program will commence in April 2011, with Factive consultants and researchers from the Journalism and Media Research Centre involved in the delivery and review of the programs.
Required
* A doctorate degree (completed or near completion) in Cultural Studies, cultural ethnography and/or Gender Studies.
* Experience in completing field research.
* An ability to work away from home locations for extended periods of time (ranging from 2 weeks to 2 months).
*       Excellent communication skills.
Desirable
* Publications and/or a doctorate degree addressing issues of masculinities.
*       Experience in report writing.
* An understanding of action research methodology.
* An understanding of occupational health and safety legislation and practices.
* Experience working in the mining industry and/or associated industries.

Application Process
Interested applicants should, in the first instance, send a 1-page resume and a short cover letter to Dr. Dean Laplonge (dean at factive.com.au <mailto:dean at factive.com.au> ). Suitably qualified applicants will be invited to take part in a more formal application and interview process at a later date. A range of employment options are likely to be available, including part-time, full-time and project-based.
