conference's abstract deadline is THIS THURSDAY 30 NOV 2006. **

AAI 2: The 2nd Asian Australian Identities conference
Date: 28-30 June 2007
Venue: Rydges Carlton, 701 Swanston St, Melbourne, Vic

We welcome papers and presentations exploring Asian Australian 
identities, histories, cultures and politics.

Areas of interest include:
* Community, cultural heritage and cultural identity
* Literature, performance and film
* Visual arts and new media
* Popular culture

Invited Speakers include:
* Tony Ayres, filmmaker
* Merlinda Bobis, writer/performer
* William Yang, artist/performer
* Khoa Do, filmmaker
* Simone Lazaroo, writer
==> More speakers will be added as they confirm.

All presentations should be of 20 minutes duration. Abstracts (200 
words max) and a short bio (max 200 words) should be sent to 
aasrn-events at asianaustralianstudies.org BY THURSDAY 30 November 2006.

We'd particularly welcome conference panels/papers focused on:
* Asia and Asia Australia - Transnational Connections
* Asian Australian Studies and Muslim Communities
* Border politics
* AA popular culture and New Identifications (blogs, zines, online 
communities)
* Alternative AA cultural histories
