Physical Camera and Telematic Performance
Johannes Birringer
This talk is linked to a workshop at Performance
Space, in which Johannes Birringer is guiding an
intensive live art exploration of interactive
interfaces and physical presence. Issues raised
in the workshop and the seminar include new
space-time relations, using the body, camera
capture, camera tracking, real time processing
software, and performing with sensors.
Professor Johannes Birringer is an independent
choreographer and media artist as well as
artistic director of AlienNation Co., a
multimedia ensemble based in Houston, Texas
(www.aliennationcompany.com). He has created
numerous dance-theatre works, video
installations, online and site-specific
performances in collaboration with artists in
Europe, the Americas and China. he is author of
several books, including Media and Performance:
Along the Border (1998), and Performance on the
Edge: Transformations of Culture (2000). He is
the founder of the Interaktionslabor Göttelborn
in Germany (http://interaktionslabor.de) and also
a founding member of AdAPT, an online community
of artists experimenting with performance and
telematics. He is currently the Chair in Drama
and Performance Technologies in the School of
Arts at Brunel University in London.
This project is a follow-up event to the
e-Performance and Plug-ins: Mediatised
Performance Conference (1-2 December 2005,
Coordinator Yuji Sone).
