RESEARCH ASSISTANT NEEDED
The Trans/forming Cultures Research Centre in Communication and Culture
at UTS is seeking to appoint a research assistant to work on a project,
'Sanctuary and Security in Contemporary Australia: Muslim Women's
Networks 1980 - 2005' which is funded by an ARC Linkage grant with the
United Muslim Women Association.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
The successful candidate will have at least an Honours degree in Arts or
Social Sciences and preferably experience in qualitative research
methods such as open-ended interviewing. Enrolment in or completion of
a research degree an advantage.
Essential criteria:
- Honours degree,
- Fluent Arabic,
- Familiarity with database management,
- Cultural sensitivity demonstrated in experience working with people of
diverse cultural and religious backgrounds,
- High level organisational and data management skills
The position will involve conducting interviews and focus groups with
Muslim women about their experiences and perceptions of security and
belonging in Australia, supervision of data entry and project management.
The position is for one day per week for an initial period of one year.
The position will be paid at Level 6.2 ($35.37 per hour).
