SHORT TERM RESEARCH ASSISTANT NEEDED - CHINESE SPEAKING 

The Centre for Research on Social Inclusion is seeking to appoint a research
assistant to work on a project 'Building Neighbourhood Harmony: Strategies
for Local Government'. The project is focused researching ways to improve
neighbourhood level relations between older residents and newer migrant
communities. 

The successful candidate will have at least an undergraduate degree in Arts
or Social Sciences and preferably an understanding of or experience in
qualitative research methods such as open-ended interviewing. The assistant
will also need to have Chinese (Mandarin) language skills. Chinese ethnicity
or background is desirable.  The position will involve conducting
consultations and interviews with the Chinese community and local Chinese
shopkeepers in Ashfield, Sydney.  

The successful candidate will preferably begin mid-late October, although
there is some flexibility in starting dates. The position is for 2 days per
week over a period of 10 weeks - split into two five week blocks -
October-November 2005, and February-March 2006.
