In July 2005 the University of Western Australia will host the inaugural
conference of the Animals & Society Study Group. 'Animals & Society'
showcases the work of new and established scholars committed to increasing
our understanding of the complex and diverse relationships between human and
non-human animals. This expanding, and truly interdisciplinary, field of
study is currently gaining prominence as the significance of animals as
symbols, resources, and companions becomes more widely acknowledged in
Australian society and beyond. The conference programme and abstracts are
now available at our website. See
http://www.anthropology.arts.uwa.edu.au/home/envirosoc/animals/animals_and_s
ociety
for more details and online registration facilities. Please direct any
queries to Natalie Lloyd (nlloyd at cyllene.uwa.edu.au) or Jane Mulcock
(jmulcock at cyllene.uwa.edu.au). Also, please note that the early bird
registration date has been extended to April 15th 2005.
