hi all,
I don't get the second bit of Brett's article about middle class voters
deserting Labor for the Greens - I mean, since the Greens preference Labor
on principle these days, haven't Labor just received those votes on
preferences?
The swing from ALP to Libs is of course the genuine concern - kiley's post
raised xenophobia, which has been notable by its absence from this campaign
and commentary on the outcome. Seems to me though that there is a
widespread, and I think mostly inaccurate, perception that the Liberals are
the anti-immigration party, and that this is bolstering their vote - it's
worth noting how the Liberals and Nationals have recouped almost all of One
Nation's vote from the last federal election.
