ROLE PROFILE

We are looking for a postdoctoral research fellow who can bring a
practical, multi-disciplinary perspective to research in the broad area
of cultural tourism, with a particular focus on Northern Australia. We
would especially welcome research projects with an urban focus because
this an area in which comparatively little research has been done with
respect to Darwin. We would also welcome comparative projects that shed
light on the relative successes and failures of Darwin as a tourist
destination compared to other Northern Australian cities such as Cairns
and Townsville. We are looking for original, creative projects that will
help set the agenda for tourism research in the Northern Territory.

SELECTION CRITERIA

There are two stages in the selection process:

Stage 1: The Faculty will review the comparative quality of
applications against the selection criteria. The Faculty will
concentrate on issues such as whether the proposed research falls within
the designated area, the ethical considerations of the proposed research
and the resource implications of the proposed research.

Stage 2: The University Research Committee, or a delegation thereof,
assesses the applications against the three major selection criteria:

1. The ability of the applicant as determined by:

• the demonstrated potential for career development, and
• the quality of past achievements, especially in regard to academic
record and awards and prizes, as well as research performance;

2. The quality of the aims, significance, research plan and methodology
of the project proposal; and
3. The priority the Faculty gives to the proposed research, the quality
of the research environment and the extent of facilities and
infrastructure provided to support the proposed research by the Faculty.
