Invitation to participate in

Environments and Ecologies in an Expanded Field
A two-day symposium convened by the University of Adelaide, at the Art
Gallery of South Australia
Sponsored by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
July 3 – 4 2004
Keynote speakers: Paul Carter, Ross Gibson, Deborah Bird Rose and Mandy
Martin
Environments and Ecologies in an Expanded Field seeks to respond to an
increasing interest across a range of disciplines in the critical
possibilities of environmental and ecological motifs and discourses.
Informed by the dominance of postindustrial economic models in the west,
new transdiciplinary ecological and environmental writing expands on
scientific models to address the heterogeneity of contemporary globalism
and locality. Bringing together speakers on a range of topics from
historiography to commodity biographies, Environments and Ecologies in an
Expanded Field encourages connections across disciplines, research centres
and institutions, and, in doing so, gives prominence to the possibilities
and tensions of eco-critical perspectives of contemporary life.
