CDU aims at corporate executives

Charles Darwin University is to launch a new postgraduate degree course,
unique to Australia and specifically designed for managers and potential
executives in government, business and industry.

Professor Eugene Clark, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Business and the Arts,
said today: "This new course, a two-year Master of Business Administration
(MBA), is an internationally recognised post-graduate management
qualification program designed for aspiring corporate executives and middle
managers in the public and private sectors throughout Australia and the
Asia-Pacific region.

"Other tertiary institutions will offer some of the units, but we are the
only university in Australia offering this course in its entirety,
underlining Charles Darwin University's growing reputation as a tertiary
institution that offers pathways to the upper levels of government,
business and industry.

"This links us in with a standard of education recognised throughout
Australia and internationally and ensures that management education at
Charles Darwin University is closely linked to the demands and requirements
of senior professionals in business and government."

Professor Clark said the MBA had been developed in close collaboration with
the Australian Institute of Management (AIM), one of the premier management
institutions in Australia.

"The MBA program provides managers with the knowledge and skills to produce
sustainable improvement in their own performance and in that of their
organisations," he said. "This course will prepare middle managers to
operate in ways that are ethical and sensitive to the environment."

Professor Clark said the MBA would offer students:

·     Effective communication, management and team relationship skills;
·     Critical thinking, critical analysis and evaluation skills;
·     Valuing of professional ethical standards;
·     Commitment to lifelong learning.

Elective units and specialisations in international business, tourism and
hospitality, marketing, accounting and finance would be offered as part of
the program.

"We will also be developing case studies of particular relevance to the NT
and relevant to the special needs of remote, rural and regional contexts.
We are also collaborating to deliver a range of AIM short courses in
collaboration with AIM - the first time these courses will be available
here."

Details about the MBA can be obtained from course coordinator Dr Rajeev
Sharma, 08 8946 6528, email Rajeev.Sharma at cdu.edu.au. The course will be
offered from the first semester in 2006.

Applicants must have a good first degree from an approved university or
equivalent institution or an approved professional qualification in
accounting, banking, management, marketing or other profession. They also
should have two years of relevant professional work experience.
