<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">The <a href="https://www.westernsydney.edu.au/ics" target="_blank">Institute for Culture and Society (ICS)</a> is a research institute within Western Sydney University. ICS is a leading Institute nationally
researching transformations in culture and society in the context of contemporary global change.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">We are now offering a research scholarship to a highly motivated PhD candidate to work within a research team on the project 'Civic Sinoburbia? New Chinese Migrants and Everyday Citizenship'. The project is
funded through the Australian Research Council.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">The Sinoburbia Project examines everyday, local civic participation in three Sydney suburbs with a high proportion of China-born residents. It focuses on how new Chinese migrants participate in everyday civic
spaces in Sydney’s suburbs, assessing the barriers and opportunities they face and examines how local organisations representing everyday civic spaces (e.g. schools, libraries, sports clubs, churches, cultural venues, care facilities and community centres)
across different domains of suburban civic life are adapting to and being transformed by the presence and participation of new Chinese migrants.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">The PhD project will be based at ICS with the opportunity to work with ICS-based supervisors, Associate Professor Shanthi Robertson and Professors Ien Ang and Megan Watkins on any social or cultural analysis
of the local impacts of Chinese migration in Sydney’s suburbs.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Domestic candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $30,000(AUD) per annum for up to 3 years to support living costs, supported by the Research Training Program (RTP) Fee
Offset.<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">International candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $30,000(AUD) per annum for up to 3 years to support living costs. Those with a strong track record will be eligible
for a tuition fee waiver.<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Support for conference attendance, fieldwork and additional costs as approved by the Institute.<o:p></o:p></span></li></ul>

Care (OSHC)</a> insurance policy for the duration their study in Australia. This cost is not covered by the scholarship.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
