Australian Research Council-funded project investigating cycling as a potential fix for Australia’s growing traffic congestion problem, using Sydney and surrounds as primary case material. The project aims to offer new knowledge about why commuter cycling
has failed to increase at a time when leisure cycling is growing exponentially. The project seeks to provide evidence about what cycling enables people to achieve through the analysis of the meanings and experiences of people who cycle in congested cities
like Sydney. The PhD project which this scholarship supports will be an integral part of the wider project but is self-contained. The successful candidate will build upon critical theory that offer insights to everyday experiences and draws upon mixed research
methods to make an original contribution along an avenue of their choosing relating to cycling and traffic congestion.
