<b>The Cultural History of the Experiment: Understanding Collaboration Between the Arts and Sciences</b><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU" style="font-size:11.0pt">It is now 50 years since the writer and physicist CP Snow famously decried the polarisation of the arts and sciences as “an immeasurable loss to intellectual and practical life.” The last decade
has seen increasingly urgent calls for science, technology, engineering and maths – the STEM disciplines – to collaborate more broadly with the arts, embracing a STEAM approach to knowledge production. This project seeks to recover the long history of collaboration
and engagement between the arts and sciences through a cultural history of the experiment, from its emergence in early modern science to contemporary experimental art. Its aim is to develop more productive models for collaboration between the arts and sciences.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-AU" style="font-size:11.0pt">While all relevant projects will be considered, proposals linked to the Fellowship themes are encouraged. Preference will be given to projects that encourage diversity and inclusivity in approach,
by considering feminist, queer, non-Western, Indigenous, critical race or critical disability perspectives, or which develop innovative or interdisciplinary methodologies.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
