In this seminar, I discuss the theoretical implications of understanding public relations as part of promotional culture, taking analysis beyond the organizational and into the social, cultural and political world. I reflect on how conceptualizing these dimensions
of public relations work opens up new and sometimes provocative ways of thinking about public relations as a profession, an organizational function and a cultural industry. I draw on current examples of public relations work to illustrate the points made.<br>
<br>
<strong>Dr Lee Edwards</strong> is an Associate Professor of Communication Studies and PR, at the School of Media and Communication, University of Leeds, UK. She is a prominent PR and communication scholar who has actively contributed to the so-called “socio-cultural
turn” in PR. She is co-editor of the <em>Public Relations Inquiry</em> journal, which takes up the mission of culturally sensible and economically and politically critical PR. Her recent books are (2015, with B. Klein and G. Moss)
