<p class="MsoNormal">Conducting inclusive research has a range of consequences. Decisions to exclude certain cohorts or tricky-to-measure outcomes in order to strengthen the study design become problematic. It is not reasonable to utilise tools which, while
valid and reliable, are not accessible. And it is not enough to produce evidence of systemic failures – the evidence must be utilised for systemic change.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This is the tale of one occupational therapy researcher who asked one hundred AT users: ‘<i>Costs aside, describe any improvements which would meet your participation needs</i>?’ The answer to this question informed the authors PhD thesis,
but was also the beginning of a co-productive journey to improve assistive technology service delivery in Australia.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The presentation includes the voices of AT user co-researchers. It will briefly cover disability and economic theory and the current Australian AT content, outline
<a href="http://dro.deakin.edu.au/view/DU:30030938">The Equipping Inclusion Studies into Assistive Technology Use and Outcomes in Victoria</a> (2010), and describe a range of research strategies and practical outcomes according to the Disability Inclusive Research
Principles (2012).<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>About the speaker<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dr Natasha Layton is an occupational therapist researching, teaching and advocating in the areas of assistive technology, disability, and outcomes. Her PhD study concerned the costs and outcomes of assistive technology solutions, and the
nexus between research, policy and practice. As an inclusive researcher her publications and other dissemination activities are tailored to a range of stakeholder audiences, and many have been co-authored with consumers. Natasha holds roles with Australian
Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology Association, International Society of Wheelchair Professionals, Motivation Australia and Polio Australia, and represents Australia internationally on the assistive products standard.<o:p></o:p></p>
