A schizoanalysis of culture seeks to critically examine this middle in a manner free from the dictates of identity, the telos of ‘cultural policy’ and other totalising forces. It searches for, to borrow Deleuze’s description of Bourdieu’s project, a way out of the ‘closed, exchangist cycles’ of so-called realist cultural sociologies. Along these lines, the subject is not a substance operated upon by the well-intentioned, but a project of individuation. This workshop will explore and test out a range of schizoanalytic approaches to culture through the work of Deleuze and Guattari.
