<DIV>EXPANDING DOCUMENTARY: SOUND, IMAGE, TEXT 2011 is the eighth biennial<BR>conference held in Aotearoa New Zealand. Arising out of a ‘small country’<BR>context, the event has been distinguished over the years by its concern<BR>to engage artists, makers, academics, writers, industry professionals<BR>and community activists interested in questions of documentary<BR>representation at the intersection of theory and practice.</DIV>

<DIV>Focusing on non-fiction and documentary-related work produced within<BR>Aotearoa, Australia and the Asia Pacific region, the conference includes<BR>presentations of works-in-progress or recently completed works, as well<BR>as academic papers.</DIV>

<DIV>In 2011, the overarching, interdisciplinary ethos of Expanding<BR>Documentary continues the event’s emphasis on new and revised directions<BR>in thinking and practice while keeping in sight significant questions of<BR>subjectivity, embodiment, ethics, history, politics, economy and<BR>technology in the process of making and interpreting documentary works.</DIV>

Subject Header: Abstract<BR>Abstracts may be accompanied by images of your work if creative practice<BR>is your focus.<BR>Please include the title of your paper or work, but not your name.</DIV>

<DIV>Abstracts will go through a double blind peer review process (or single<BR>blind review where necessary for creative practice). Each abstract will<BR>be reviewed by at least two referees. Notification of acceptance will<BR>be sent by the 19th of August.<BR>Confirmation of attendance will be required within a month of<BR>notification.<BR>Every attempt will be made to include all successful peer-reviewed<BR>papers/presentations. A waitlist will be established in the event that<BR>not all peer-reviewed papers/presentations can be programmed.</DIV>
