She is the author of <I><SPAN style="FONT-STYLE: italic">A Critical Introduction to Queer Theory </SPAN></I>and<I><SPAN style="FONT-STYLE: italic"> Tattooed Bodies: Subjectivity, Textuality, Ethics, Pleasure</SPAN></I> as well as co-editor (with Samantha Murray) of <I><SPAN style="FONT-STYLE: italic">Somatechnics: Queering the Technologisation of Bodies</SPAN></I>. </SPAN></FONT><FONT size=2 face=Calibri><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; FONT-SIZE: 11pt"></SPAN></FONT></P>

<P class=MsoNormal><FONT size=2 face=Calibri><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; FONT-SIZE: 11pt" lang=EN-US>The term ‘somatechnics’ indicates an approach to corporeality which considers bodily-bieng as always already bound up with a variety of technologies, techniques and technics; that is, as Bernard Stiegler has argued as length, necessarily technical. Here, techné refers to the processes that craft bodily-being in specific ways, and carries with it the suggestion of the (oftentimes tacit) transmission of values, standards, skills, practices, and so on. Think, pace de Lauretis and Butler, of technologies of gender, or of Foucault’s account of the techniques of the self that are constitutive of ethical citizenship in ancient Greco-Roman culture.</SPAN></FONT><FONT size=2 face=Calibri><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; FONT-SIZE: 11pt"></SPAN></FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal><FONT size=2 face=Calibri><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; FONT-SIZE: 11pt" lang=EN-US>The aim of this master class is to provide an overview of the ways in which the term somatechnics has been deployed, and to give participants an opportunity to discuss the possible uses and benefits of the concept for their own research.</SPAN></FONT><FONT size=2 face=Calibri><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; FONT-SIZE: 11pt"></SPAN></FONT></P></DIV>
