</SPAN></FONT><SPAN STYLE='font-size:11pt'><FONT FACE="Arial"><B>The lecture will focus on psychoanalysis as a method of discovering <BR>
unconscious meaning, and the significance of this for the development of <BR>
mind. Examples will be drawn from the realms of symptoms, dreams, play, <BR>
transference and counter-transference. Some of these themes will be <BR>
illustrated with reference to the film <I>Lars and the Real Girl. </I></B>A particular <BR>
focus will be the problem of the traumatised patient who cannot think <BR>
symbolically, and on the current understanding of factors that facilitate <BR>
this development.<BR>

</B></SPAN><B><SPAN STYLE='font-size:11pt'><I><U>Dr. John McClean</U></I></SPAN></B><SPAN STYLE='font-size:11pt'><I> is Vice-President of the Australian Psychoanalytical <BR>
Society, and a senior analyst with the Sydney Institute for Psychoanalysis. <BR>
He is active in teaching and training, and has a particular interest in the <BR>
relationships between psychoanalysis and literature and film.<BR>

Psychoanalytic Centre, which has been set up under the auspice of the <BR>
