The Book
In this detailed account of Jane Campion's career as a filmmaker, Deb
Verhoeven examines specifically how contemporary film directors
'fashion' themselves as auteurs - through their personal interactions
with the media, in their choice of projects, in their emphasis on
particular filmmaking techniques and finally in the promotion of their
films.

The Presenter
Julie Rigg began her career as a print journalist working for
Sydney Daily Telegraph and then as a foundational journalist at
The Australian. Since l988 Julie has worked as a critic and arts
broadcaster for ABC Radio National, specialising in film. In l990 she
won the BP Arts Media Award. In 2003, she was awarded the prestigious
Geraldine Pascall prize for critical writing. Julie's skills as a
movie reviewer, her interviews, and her passionate advocacy of film
criticism were cited as the reasons for her being an obvious choice.
She served on the executive of the Film Critics Circle of Australia
for four years, and was president for two. Julie has also served on
FIPRESCI (International Critics Federation) juries at the San
Sebastian Film Festival (l990) and the Toronto International Film
festival (2002). She currently presents MovieTime and her film reviews
and interviews also appear once a month on Radio National's The Deep
End (weekdays at 3pm).
