style='line-height:150%'>Entertainment is the preeminent form of culture around
the world. It has the largest audiences, it is the most popular form of
culture, and it is the biggest cultural industry. This has been true throughout
the modern period. Yet entertainment has received very surprisingly little
academic attention. Beyond dismissals by Cultural Theory and some attention to
the Business of Entertainment, it is only recently that we have seen concerted
academic work which takes entertainment seriously and seeks to understand,
celebrate and write about entertainment, past, present, and future.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-top:6.0pt;line-height:150%'><span
style='line-height:150%;color:black'>The Media and Citizenship stream of the <i>ANZCA09:
Communication, Creativity and Global Citizenship</i> conference is seeking
papers and panels that address the following topics:<o:p></o:p></span></p>

explaining the importance of entertainment to human culture.<o:p></o:p></span></li>

individual examples of successful entertainment.<o:p></o:p></span></li>
