The Somatechnics of Infrastructure

Abstracts accepted on a rolling basis until May 30, 2025

This special issue of Somatechnics: Journal of Bodies - Technologies - Power<https://www.euppublishing.com/loi/soma> seeks contributions that critically examine the relationship between bodies, power, and infrastructure. The issue understands infrastructure as inter-corporeal and enmeshed in human and more-than-human relationships. Infrastructures assemble social identities and projects of subjectification including racialisation, sexualisation, and nationalisation. Infrastructural violence and infrastructure citizenship are twinned to projects of population exclusion and inclusion. The maintenance and repair of infrastructure function also to enhance the socio- and geo-political networks infrastructure is attached to. Infrastructure histories elucidate the place- and world-making role of the support structures and systems that build mobility, security, and capitalism. In their fundamental role as support for the movement of people and things, infrastructures are inherently corporeal and capillary.

Focus can include but is not limited to:

  *   metabolic infrastructures
  *   settler colonial infrastructuring
  *   more-than-human infrastructuring
  *   environmental infrastructures
  *   racial infrastructures
  *   biopolitical infrastructures
  *   embodied infrastructural histories
  *   infrastructural aesthetics
  *   infrastructural media

Submission of manuscripts September 1, 2025.
