Dear Colleagues,

I participated as an expert panel member on the Australian Telecommunications Resilience Profile, which marks the first time the resilience of the Australian telecommunications sector has been profiled at the sector level.

Link here: https://techpolicydesign.au/telecommunications_sector

⚖️ Variations in approaches by enterprises and government have historically complicated the assessment of resilience at the sector level. The Tech Policy Design Centre was commissioned by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts<https://www.linkedin.com/company/infrastructureau/> to address this gap.

🤝 Over 200 stakeholders from across the sector, representing all states, territories, and the federal government, industry, consumer groups, and dependent/interdependent sectors came together to make this project a reality.

🚨 This Profile is pioneering because it:
1. Recognises risk as a component of resilience
2. Takes a holistic all-hazards approach
3. Adopts a sector-wide perspective
4. Introduces the Sector Resilience Maturity Model, a new analytical framework for assessing sector resilience at the national level, and creates new tools and a common taxonomy.

📈 Assessed against the maturity model, the Australian telecommunications sector is ‘developing,’ level two on a five-point scale. This indicates that while basic resilience measures are in place, further action is needed to enhance coordination and resource allocation across the sector.

Kind regards,
Holly.
