This webinar presents contributions from the two-part special issue '<https://www.euppublishing.com/toc/soma/13/2>Somatechnics of Water<https://www.euppublishing.com/toc/soma/13/3>'. Somatechnics is particularly suited to an exploration of water’s ability to decentre human agency and mould various environmental techne in relation to liveability. Water’s capacity to be deafening and destructive reflects its power as both an energy and infrastructural force. Part 1 of the special issue critically examines the instrumentalisation of water in hydrocolonial and biopolitical practices of human and non-human liveability. The issue also explored the relationality of water and its assembling role in enjoining various actors to its flows and topographies. ‘<https://www.euppublishing.com/toc/soma/13/3>Part 2<https://www.euppublishing.com/toc/soma/13/2>’ continues the analyses of water power across hydrosocial and hydrocolonial sites in Australia, Chile, and Colombia.
Each of these contributions illustrates the dynamic agency of water through the somatechnics lens–the inextricable connection and imbrication of water through our very bodies and its saturation of life giving landscapes.
Respondent: Dr Penelope Rossiter, Senior Lecturer in Culture and Society, Western Sydney University
