Dear colleagues,

UNSW’s School of the Arts & Media is looking for sessional staff to tutor in our revamped Bachelor of Media and our expanding Masters degrees in 2024.

The UNSW Bachelor of Media<https://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/programs/2023/3341> is a broad-ranging program in which students combined deep specialisation in one field with strong foundations in media theory and lots of choice around electives. We are recruiting tutors for our teaching pool for four of our specialisations: Communications & Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations & Advertising, and Screen Production. We are also expanding our sessional staff in our popular postgraduate Master of Journalism and Communication<https://www.unsw.edu.au/study/postgraduate/master-of-journalism-and-communication?studentType=Domestic>, and Master of Public Relations & Advertising<https://www.unsw.edu.au/study/postgraduate/master-of-public-relations-and-advertising?studentType=Domestic>.

Our tutors come from both academic and industry backgrounds. You might hold or be a candidate for a PhD in a related area, or have significant industry experience that equips you to teach our practice-based courses.

UNSW has a three term academic calendar<https://www.student.unsw.edu.au/calendar>, with each term running for 10 weeks (including a one-week break). Tutorials are run for 2 hours on average, but the length and format varies from course to course. For 2024, almost all tutorials will be face-to-face on the Kensington, Sydney, campus with online classes available on selected courses only. Tutors work closely with course convenors / lecturers and are responsible for supporting student learning via in-class activities, formative feedback, and timely marking of assessment.

If you would like to be considered for our teaching pool, you must submit an application via UNSW’s UniHire portal<https://external-careers.jobs.unsw.edu.au/cw/en/job/507301/casual-academic-talent-pool-ada-arts-media>. This portal allows you to lodge an expression of interest for sessional employment, indicate previous teaching experiences, and identify specific specialisations and courses that you feel might fit. Applying is not a guarantee of employment but we will endeavour to find matches for applicants with appropriate experience. Please be expansive in your preferences, but only tag courses you would feel confident to teach based on your academic or industry background. Previous experience with international students is also welcomed.

Detailed information about the program can be found at the UNSW Handbook entries for the Bachelor of Media<https://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/programs/2024/3341> (click through the Specialisation entries to find out more about each area and the courses available within it) and the Master of Journalism and Communication<https://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/postgraduate/programs/2024/8232?year=2024>, and Master of Public Relations & Advertising<https://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/postgraduate/programs/2024/8281?year=2024>.
