Critique Now Public Lecture

“The Law of Cooperation: A New Paradigm.”

Speaker: Professor Bernard E. Harcourt,  Isidor and Seville Sulzbacher
Professor of Law and Professor of Political Science, Columbia University,
New York.

Bernard E. Harcourt is a critical theorist and legal advocate who works on
human rights issues and is the author of a major new work that proposes
“Coöperism” as a way to address social injustice and the climate crisis. In
this talk, Harcourt will propose a new legal paradigm called “the law of
cooperation” to complement the political, economic, and social dimensions of
the theory of Coöperism that he develops in his most recent book,
Cooperation: A Political, Economic, and Social Theory (Columbia UP, 2023).
Harcourt’s recent work includes Critique and Praxis (2020) and The
Counterrevolution (2018).

Professor Harcourt is an ADA Distinguished Visitor, hosted by the
