Dear Colleagues,

You are cordially invited to the AI and Indigenous Data Sovereignty webinar convened by the School of Indigenous Australian Studies at Charles Sturt University.

AI and Indigenous Data Sovereignty: Knowing and Teaching in New Data Contexts
May 5th, 3pm AUS
Zoom

The rapid development of artificial intelligence applications such as ChatGPT has generated debate and discussion about knowledge and teaching practices in higher education and elsewhere. Although the development of new data contexts raise important ethical and professional practice issues, these developments also take place in a digital context informed by older colonial knowledges and biases. This webinar focuses on AI and Indigenous Data Sovereignty and the impact of new data contexts on Indigenous data decision-making. The webinar examines how knowledge and teaching practices must recognise the importance of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property rights and the potential for new technologies to reinforce existing information inequalities.

The webinar features Professor Sue Green<https://researchoutput.csu.edu.au/en/persons/sue-green><https://researchoutput.csu.edu.au/en/persons/sue-green> (Charles Sturt University), <https://www.taiuru.maori.nz/> Dr Karaitiana Taiuru<https://www.taiuru.maori.nz/> (University of Auckland), and <https://au.linkedin.com/in/jessica-russ-smith-25ba26248> Jess Russ-Smith<https://au.linkedin.com/in/jessica-russ-smith-25ba26248> (Australian Catholic University).
