*AusSTS 2023*
*Call for Applications Open*
*17 - 18th July, UNSW Sydney*
We are pleased to announce that the Call for Applications for AusSTS 2023
<https://aussts.wordpress.com/2023cfp/> is now open! We welcome
participants *at all career stages* to share research and other work via
short presentations or in a workshop format with pre-circulated written
pieces. These can be on any topic or in any area that we might loosely
think about as constituting a ‘contribution’ to Science and Technology
Studies (STS) thinking. Participants are also welcome to contribute to
AusSTS 2023 as a non-presenting attendee.
*The AusSTS 2023 conference marks the first in a new alternating structure
of AusSTS annual events. While the multi-sited and early-career focused
workshop format of previous years will continue in 2024, this year (and
every two years moving forward) we will hold a single AusSTS
conference welcoming attendees at all career stages engaged in STS work
across Australasia. This first AusSTS conference will be held in Sydney,
Australia.*
AusSTS 2023 will feature a series of discussions about what it means to
contribute to and with Australasian STS. Our opening keynote will be a
conversation with *Dr Thao Phan* (Monash University) and *Professor Celia
Roberts* (ANU) on “Contributing to and with Feminist Technoscience.” This
will be followed by a panel discussion centred on the question “What is an
Australasian STS Contribution?” with *Dr Courtney Addison* (Te Herenga
Waka-Victoria University of Wellington), *Dr Ash Watson* (UNSW), and *Associate
Professor Thom van Dooren* (University of Sydney) *(more panel participants
to be announced soon)*. The conference will also include a closing plenary
bringing the various conference contributions into dialogue, as well as
other opportunities for socialising and connection.
Please read below for details and share widely with your networks:
*Theme: “Contributing to and with STS”*
*Date: Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th July, 2023*
*Location: UNSW, Sydney*
*Applications due: Sunday 9 April 2023*
We invite scholars, writers, artists, and activists from any career stage
to contribute to AusSTS 2023. Please submit an application to participate
via one of the following formats:
1. *Submit an abstract for a short (5 minute) presentation or
provocation.* Sessions will consist of 4–5 presentations followed by
group discussion.
2. *Submit a proposal for a piece of written work* to be workshopped
with AusSTS attendees. *Pieces of work can include papers or thought
pieces (including works in progress), more speculative proposals of
research, and other creative or non-traditional forms of translation and
output. *Final submissions should be in a written format, between 1,000
and 3,000 words, and ready to be circulated amongst all attendees by 1 July
2023.*
3. *Register interest as a non-presenting attendee.*
We welcome submissions from all disciplines and areas of expertise. We are
interested in the many ways that scholars across Australasia are already
engaged in the kinds of work and thinking we might consider a
‘contribution’ to and with STS.
