New Bloomsbury Academic Book Series: Asian Celebrity and Fandom Studies
Series Editors: Jian Xu and Sean Redmond, Deakin University, Australia
Manuscript length: 60,000 to 100,000 words
Scope
The series will be the first dedicated to the publication of monographs, readers, and edited collections on Asian stardom, celebrity, and fandom culture.
Asia arguably has the world’s most vibrant star, celebrity and fandom cultures, due in part to its globalised entertainment media and cultural industries, and its large population base, and yet there is little sustained scholarship on this highly significant cultural and economic arena. The Asian Celebrity and Fandom Studies Series aims to meet this research gap, promoting new and innovative scholarship in Asian media and cultural studies, and screen studies, by concentrating on the most salient issues surrounding Asian stardom, celebrity and fandom. The Asian Celebrity and Fandom Studies Series is devoted to the publication of scholarly books that critically examine star, celebrity and fandom cultures in specific Asian countries, in trans-Asian or trans-national contexts, and among Asian diasporas. It welcomes proposals for monographs, co-authored books, edited collections and readers that explore:
Celebrity culture in Asia
Asian influencer economies
Celebrity politics in Asia
Star bodies in Asia
Celebrity and Asian identity
Affective fame
Gender and sexuality in the context of Asian celebrity and fandom
Persona studies within the context of Asia
Star and celebrity branding within Asia
Fame and Asian philanthropy
Star and celebrity activism and advocacy within Asia
Celebrity governance and public diplomacy in Asia
Transnational Asian idols and stars

Fan or anti-fan practices around Asian stars and celebrities
