Somatechnics: Journal of Bodies - Technologies - Power Call for Special Issue Proposals

Somatechnics presents a thoroughly multi-disciplinary scholarship on 'the body', providing a space for research that critically engages with the ethico-political implications of a wide range of practices and techniques. Published by Edinburgh University Press and founded in 2011, Somatechnics has published contributions that present innovative examinations of the interplay between bodily being and the technological context in which it occurs.

The term 'Somatechnics' indicates an approach to corporeality which considers it as always already bound up with a variety of technologies, techniques and technics, thus enabling an examination of the lived experiences engendered within a given context, and the effects that technologies, technés and techniques have on embodiment, subjectivity and sociality.

The journal publishes articles and special issues on topics such as the (soma)technics of racialization, 'terror', movement, spatialization, size(ing), reproduction, consumption, gender, medicine, information, gaming, film, nation, globalization, ecology, bioscience, law, sexuality, family, education, health, visuality, data, design, and sports.

The journal has recently moved to a 3 issue per year publishing model and is keen to expand the scope of Somatechnics research this publishing model enables. The editors, Professor Iris van der Tuin and Dr. Holly Randell-Moon, are seeking Special Guest Editorship proposals on any aspect of somatechnics practice and embodiment. We are particularly interested in special issues that focus on:

  * The somatechnics of capitalism, labour, and work
  * Popular cultures and media and somatechnics
  *   The somatechnics of surveillance
  * Social media as a somatechnics of the self
  *   Race as a somatechnic
  * The somatechnics of settler colonisation
  * The somatechnics of sound cultures, voice and cultural auracy
  *   The somatechnics of Infrastructure
  *   Somatechnics and cultural geography

Please send a 200 words proposal with Guest Editor bios to: somatechnicsjournal at gmail.com<mailto:somatechnicsjournal at gmail.com>.
