The deadline for applications for the 2020 IAMCR Urban Communication
Research Grant has been extended. It is now 30 April 2020.
The grant is worth USD 1,750 and supports communication and media
research that advances understanding of the growing complexity of the
urban environment. The grant is hosted by the International Association
for Media and Communication Research and funded by the Urban
Communication Foundation. It is predicated on the assumption that
communication scholars have a valuable contribution to make to an
understanding of the urban landscape. The grant is open to all IAMCR
members in good standing.
The USD 1,750 grant is designed to support research already in progress
or in the beginning stages. Priority is given to projects that feature
innovative, inter-disciplinary, applied, and creative approaches to
studying the central role of communication in the transformation of
urban cultures and communities. The grant is not intended for already
completed research presented at the current IAMCR Conference in Tampere.
A 7-person committee consisting of five IAMCR members and two Urban
Communication Foundation representatives will judge the proposals. IAMCR
representatives in the committee are Nico Carpentier (Chair), Cees
Hamelink, Janet Wasko, Aimée Vega Montiel and Olesya Venger. Urban
Communication Foundation representatives are Gary Gumpert and Susan Drucker.
The grant is awarded each year at the annual IAMCR Conference, but this
year it will be part of the online IAMCR conference, organised by
Tampere University. Grant winners must report to IAMCR and the UCF on
the progress of their research at the 2021 year conference, and are
required to submit a paper for this conference.
Application Procedure
Submit the application electronically to UrbanCommunication2020 at iamcr.org.
Applications will be accepted until April 30, 2020. Applicants must be
current members of IAMCR.
The complete application must include:
