Dear All
Apologies for cross-posting.
I'm delighted to announce that Special Issue 17.1, Queer Safe Space, is now available online:
http://www.borderlands.net.au/issues/vol17no1.html
This is a very impressive issue, comprising experiential and cutting-edge analysis of the specific opportunities and challenges associated with queer safe spaces in Western and non-Western locations. As the editors, Yossi David, Lital Pascar and Gilly Hartal explain: 'the papers introduce a wide range of conceptualizations and multi-scalar perspectives, brought to light by the encounter between beliefs regarding safe spaces and actual intersectional experiences'. Their paper, for example, investigates specific aspects of Israeli militarist, colonialist, and masculinist society and its implications for the construction of queer safe spaces in West-Jerusalem. Contributions from Godfried Asante, Amalia Ziv, Yael Mishali and Ferdiansyah Thajib combine to explore the construction of social, digital and physical queer safe space through candid and nuanced narratives that are both distinctively personal and contextually diverse.
My thanks to the editors and authors for their vision and diligence in formulating and producing this Special Issue. It's been a pleasure working with you. My thanks, also, to Tony Burke for his support and help with publication.
Very best wishes
Anne
