Dear colleague,
A Research Associate position is now available at the National Drug Research Institute's Melbourne office and we're keen to appoint an excellent person. I'd be most grateful if you could please pass on the information below to anyone you think would be interested or who might have relevant contacts.
The National Drug Research Institute (NDRI) conducts high-quality, high-impact research on alcohol and other drug use in Australia. Funded by the Australian Research Council, a large, international research project is about to commence at NDRI's Melbourne office, which is currently located in Fitzroy. The project will investigate the gender concepts informing research and policy on alcohol-related violence among young people, using a comparative approach encompassing Australia, Canada and Sweden. Using a combination of qualitative methods, including interviews with epidemiologists and policymakers, the project aims to develop recommendations for improving Australia's capacity to address gender issues in alcohol-related violence. The project is led by Prof David Moore (NDRI) and A/Prof Helen Keane (The Australian National University), and involves collaborators in Canada (Prof Kate Graham, Centre for Addiction & Mental Health) and Sweden (A/Prof Mats Ekendahl, Stockholm University).
A research associate (full-time for 32 months) will be employed to manage the day-to-day operations of the project. This position will be responsible for recruiting, conducting, coding and analysing research interviews; collecting, coding and analysing textual materials; coordinating other aspects of the project; contributing to the publication of research findings and other project outputs; and presenting findings to academic and other audiences.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in Sociology, Anthropology or cognate discipline, a track record in peer-reviewed publications, experience working on qualitative research projects, the ability to coordinate a large research project with a social media presence, and excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. The successful applicant will need to be able to work as part of small team but function effectively with minimal supervision.
Applications close at 5pm, Monday 14 May. For more information, including the selection criteria and application process, please visit http://applynow.net.au/jobs/ni/CURTIN109-research-associate.
Many thanks and apologies for cross-postings.
Kind regards,
David

NDRI acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first inhabitants of Australia. They are the traditional owners of the lands of Australia where we live, and we pay respect to their elders past and present.
